2008 – -Residents were treated to a tour by officials of NHCC of the barn and “poor house” at A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility visit to consider the feasibility of the old barn as a community center.

The background for the tour had to do with the 2008 promise by NHCC in their letter of intent to the Uniondale Neighborhood Center and the Uniondale community for “Requiring from a developer that they set aside two million ($2,000,000) dollars for the construction of a new community center. It envisioned that the barn now on the Uniondale Property, if suitable, be refurbished to house the new Community Center” and “Requiring that adjacent property be set aside as ball fields to be accessed by the community.”

David Greaves, president of Uniondale Neighborhood Center, and Nassau County Legislator Kevan Abrahams were on hand with other community members as A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility’s Executive Director, Larry Slatky, led the tour.

The community was very grateful for the opportunity and witnessed the history surrounding the barn and poor house. See more pictures here.
