Governor George Pataki made good on his promise to visit Uniondale Neighborhood Center. The visit arranged by Luis Vasquez, Executive Director of CASA, and member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, took place on Uniondale Neighborhood Center’s Annual Summer Cookout.

Over one hundred and fifty members were on hand to greet Governor George Pataki as the Uniondale Neighborhood Center used the occasion to showcase its work and plans for a community center.

UNC’s president, Angel Mejias, Luis Vasquez, David Greaves, and other board members were enthusiastic about this opportunity to share their vision with the governor while enjoying the festivities of the day together.

David Greaves, the treasurer of Uniondale Neighborhood Center, and Angel Mejias submitted a written proposal to Governor Pataki for funding a new community center while pointing out during the tour how the current facility can be adapted to meet their aspirations for the organization. The occasion, attended by notables such as Nassau County Legislator, Darlene Harris and Bishop J. Raymond Mackey, Sr. of Tabernacle of Joy Church, was an example of great community spirit and hopefulness of the attending crowd for the recognition by the governor of the prospects for a Uniondale community center.
